Gordon B. Chambers, CMS, passed away peacefully at Marian Medical Center, CCU surrounded by family and close friends on July 28, 2009, after a short illness. Mr. Chambers was born in Sacramento, CA and graduated from C.K. McClatchy High School and attended Sacramento City College. After serving his country in the U.S. Army he graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and settled in Santa Maria, CA to raise his family. Mr. Chambers was preceded in death by his loving wife of more than 50 years, Clara M. (Souza) Chambers in September 2007. Mr. Chambers is survived by 3 children, Donald G. Chambers and wife Frances, Nancy A. Grant and husband Rick and Ronald N. Chambers all of Santa Maria; and his niece Jean M. Gracia and husband Jim of Santa Maria who was counted among one of his children. He is also survived by his sister, Carol J. Crespo of Sacramento and brother, Lee W. Chambers of Ashland, VA and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his very special friend, Elsie Neves of Nipomo, who brought much joy to his life and was a constant companion and never left his side in his illness. Mr. Chambers retired from Martin Marietta at Vandenberg AFB after more than 30 years of employment. He was a past International President of the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society; served at all levels of California Association of Refrigeration Service Engineers Society; was a member of the Santa Maria Elks Lodge Number 1538 and was the Wagon Master of the Elk's Traveleers. Mr. Chambers was also very involved in Boy Scouts in his youth and was a Cub Scout Master of Troop 78 of St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic School. Gordon attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church and was a member of the choir and was a member of the Cabrillo Club. He was also involved in many other civic organizations. Mr. Chambers enjoyed traveling and enjoyed many trips by land, air and sea. One of Mr. Chambers' great joys was traveling in his motor home and his last trip was to Morro Bay with dear friends. He was amongst the last of the "Good-guys" and was always there to lend a helping hand to those in need. He enjoyed working on many projects and was skilled in many talents including wood-working, metal fabrication, electrical and heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration. Gordon enjoyed air travel of any kind - in his younger years he enjoyed building model air planes and prior to his retirement worked on obtaining his private pilot's license. In addition to his wife, Mr. Chambers was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Goldie Chambers of Sacramento. It is with deep regret that we learn of the passing of Gordon. Gordon and his wife Clara were a fixture at many of the International RSES Conferences and we both worked with him on the RSES Board and RSESA Board. We always looked forward to seeing them at the conferences, to catch up on old times and sometimes share our visions for the future of RSES. He was in every respect a gentleman of bearing, thought and deed.
Our condolences to the family and his special friend.

I was very fortunate to have worked with Gordon on several RSES International committees (where I learned a lot from him), as well as counting him as a good friend. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him, though he's now with his Father & Miss Clara in Heaven looking down on us.
