Nancy Humes Obituary

Nancy Humes

1956 - 2025

Nancy Humes completed her journey with pancreatic cancer on November 16, 2025, running into the arms of Jesus - free, whole and radiant in His glory.

Nancy was born on July 2, 1956 on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, where she lived during her childhood and adolescence. Nancy loved nature and the arts; summers were spent solo sailing and swimming the waters of Buzzard's Bay near her home. Nancy always said that she was born with "sand between my toes", loving all outdoor activities. Musically, Nancy played violin and clarinet in local ensembles.

Following high school, Nancy completed her BSN in nursing at Boston College. Her nursing career first took her to Dartmouth Medical Center, then to California. While living in Malibu, Nancy met her future husband, Marshall. Nancy and Marshall were married in December, 1983, making their first home in Arroyo Grande. Our first child, Alexander (Sandy) was born in 1986 and our second child, Sara, was born in 1990. Nancy devoted herself to our children, who remain her true legacy.

In addition to living in Arroyo Grande, Nancy and Marshall lived in Virginia during Marshall's time in the military. Most recently, Nancy and Marshall enjoyed their small farm in Tennessee.

Nancy and Marshall enjoyed many adventures together, including Sierra backpacking trips, cross-country RV trips, and sailing the waters of Cape Cod. Nancy's joy was found in animals, flowers, rainbows and sunsets. She delighted in her beloved golden retrievers.

Following her diagnosis, Nancy demonstrated courage and resolve during her treatments. Although receiving her devastating diagnosis, Nancy clung onto and maintained her faith in God and trust in God's providence.

In addition to being survived by her husband, Marshall; son, Alexander; and daughter, Sara, Nancy is survived by her brother, Bill Howe.

We will not say that Nancy is "resting in peace". Instead, we proclaim that she is running in Paradise - whole, free, and forever embraced by the love of her Savior. That is what Nancy would have wanted. 1 Thessalonians 4:13

A time of remembrance and celebration of Nancy's life will be at 11am, Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Calvary Chapel, 1133 Maple Street, Arroyo Grande.

I am a friend who met Nancy through Christian ministries including making beaded gospel bracelets at Calvary Chapel for children. I enjoyed knowing her and found that she had helpful insights to share with me. I´ve had 3 kinds of cancer myself and know it is difficult. May God give you and your family comfort and bless the children whom she served in ministry.
