Ramon Hervey Obituary

RAMON TRICHE HERVEY
1926-2008

Ramon Triche Hervey, a third-generation military career serviceman, passed peacefully in his home in Santa Maria, Thursday, March 27, 2008. He has been a resident of Santa Maria since 1992 and was 81 years old.

Mr. Hervey retired from active duty in 1967 while stationed at Vandenberg Air Force Base. Since his retirement from the Air Force, Mr. Hervey continued to pursue his talents as an artist and technical illustrator. He served as a technical illustrator and art and publications director for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration at Vandenberg Air Force Base, and managed the print plant at Los Angeles Air Force Base. Prior to relocating to Santa Maria, he founded and co-owned H2Ltd, a graphic design company in El Segundo, California. He and his then partner, and later his wife, co-authored the book, "El Segundo - 75 years," which is archived in the National Library of Congress. Before launching his own company, he also worked at MS Associates, a graphic design company based in Torrance, CA. He later relocated to Santa Maria in 1992 to join his partner of nineteen years, Eileen Hunter, whom he married in 1993.

Mr. Hervey was most proud of his third generation of military service. He enlisted in the Navy in 1943, immediately after graduating from high school in Chicago, Illinois. He did his indoctrination services at Great Lakes Naval Base and later was stationed in Okinawa for two years. He left the Navy shortly thereafter, and, in September 1946, he married his high school sweetheart, Winifred Lorraine Colllins. He later attended Northwestern University, before opting to join the Air Force.

Mr. Hervey was a Tech Sergeant and served as technical illustrator throughout most of his career in the Air Force. Some of his key assignments included, the Supreme Headquarters Allied Power in Europe and HQ. 8th Air Force NCO Academy, Westover, Mass, and finally Vandenberg Air Force Base, where he served his last five years of active service.

Mr. Hervey and his first wife had five children, Christie, Ramon, Paul, Winifred, and George, all of whom were primarily raised in Mission Hills, just outside of Lompoc. The oldest, Christie, graduated from Lompoc High School, and the remaining four all graduated from Cabrillo High School. Mr. Hervey divorced his first wife of 27 years in 1973. In December 1980, his youngest son, George Albert Hervey, a graduate of West Point, died of injuries sustained in a car accident, while he was stationed in Bremen, Germany.

Mr. Hervey was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 18, 1926. He was the youngest of three children (two sons and one daughter) born to Henry P. and Georgia Triche Hervey of New Orleans. He was raised in the Morgan Park community in Chicago, Illinois, and graduated from Morgan Park High School. In addition to attending Northwestern University, he also attended the Art Institute, and later received an AA degree and a lifetime teaching credential in Art and Design from Allan Hancock College, and a B.A. in Criminal Justice from the University of La Verne.

Mr. Hervey is survived by his wife, the former Eileen Curry Hunter; former wife Winifred Hervey of Beverly Hills; children Ramon Triche Hervey II of Chappaqua, NY; Christie and Winifred Hervey of Los Angeles; Paul Hervey and his wife Joyce of Washington, NJ; and eight grandchildren: Jamie and Stacie Gibson; Melanie, Jillian, and Devin Hervey; Otto and Esa Stallworth; and George Hervey. He also leaves stepchildren John Hunter of El Segundo, CA and Laura Hunter of Manitou Springs, CO; step-grandchildren Cassidi and Jesse Hunter; and nieces and nephews Dianne Hervey, Martin, Edward, and Loretta Adams, and Rosalyn Morton.
He was predeceased by his father, Henry P. Hervey, mother Georgia Triche Hervey; son Lt. George Hervey, brother Lt. Col. (ret.) Henry P. Hervey II, a Tuskegee Airman; sister Geraldine Adams; and nephew Anthony Roger.

At Mr. Hervey's request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to make a donation to their favorite charity.

Arrangements are under the direction of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary and Crematory.
