1929 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
Joseph DevivoSaratoga Springs, NY – Joseph A. DeVivo passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018 with his devoted family by his side. Born November 17, 1929 in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Sabina DeVivo. He was a graduate of Saratoga Springs High School and the Royal Academy of Barbering. Joe married the love of his life, Kathy Kondenar on January 3, 1960 in The Church of St. Peter, Saratoga Springs. Upon graduation from high school he was employed by the Delaware & Hudson Railroad. With the outbreak of the Korean War, Joe volunteered to serve in the United States Navy aboard the battleship USS Wisconsin. During his military service from 1950 to 1954 he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Joe was a charter member of the Italian American Veterans Post 35 and the #60 Korean War Veterans of America. He owned and operated the Northgate Barber Shop in Queensbury from 1966 to his retirement in 1996. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Brookhaven Golf Club and the Monday Night Firehouse League, of which he was a two time league champion. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Kathy; daughter Deana (Chris) Signor and son Joseph DeVivo, Jr.; grandchildren Rachel, Daniel and Sarah Signor; sisters Mary Murray and Kate Orsini of Saratoga Springs and brother Sal (Ann) DeVivo of Newark, DE as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his brother Mike DeVivo. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. John Delmonte and his wonderful staff members and also Community Hospice of Saratoga. There will be no public calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Thursday, July 12, 2018 at St. Clement's Church, 231 Lake Ave. Burial with military honors will follow at 11:30am at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road, Schuylerville. Donations in Joe's memory may be made to Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (518-584-5373).
