George Alan Steuber - SAVANNAH - George Alan Steuber, husband, father of three, grandfather of eight, and great-grandfather of five, died Sunday, February 19, 2017, in Savannah GA. Born in 1928 in Rochester, NY to the late George and Lilah Steuber he graduated from Brighton High School, Amherst College, the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration and served as a Destroyer Gunnery Officer during the Korean War. One enchanted evening, May 5th, 1954 to be precise he met Jane Fraser, from that moment forward the love of his life and wife of 62 years. After stints at GE and IBM he joined a fledgling Boston mobile equipment leasing company serving the electric utility industry. With the passage of the act permitting the private ownership of nuclear material the company pioneered the supply of nuclear energy to electric utilities in the form of heat supply contracts. By 1974 when that company was acquired by The Prudential Insurance Company it was the largest private owner of nuclear fuel in the world. In 1979 Steuber was elected president of the company, renamed Prulease, and a vice president of the parent company. He served on the Boards of Prulease and other corporations. He and his wife brought up a family in Wayland, MA. In 1985 he retired to Cape Cod, MA where he immersed himself into one of New England's premier boating and fishing venues. With year-round golf as an enticement he and his wife moved to the Landings in Savannah, GA where he enjoyed golf and rekindled old hobbies of woodworking, genealogy, photography, and writing. He was a founding member of Kirk o' the Isles Presbyterian Church, an Elder in the Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church, a Red Cross volunteer and a reader for the blind with the Georgia Radio Reading Service. He leaves behind his wife, Jane Fraser Steuber; a son, two daughters and their families: Son Harry Steuber of Germantown, TN, and his wife Patricia and their children Katherine Laird, Jennifer Deathridge and Hannah Muirhead; daughter Laura Steuber Dalton of Colorado Springs, CO and her husband Bret and their two children Daniel and Grace; daughter Amy Steuber Jablonski of Madison, CT and her husband Richard and their three children Rebecca, Emily and Sam; great-grandchildren Chase, Luke, and Melanie Laird, Josephine Deathridge and Lila Muirhead; and a brother, Harry G. Steuber of Murfreesboro, TN. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church, 50 Diamond Causeway, Savannah, GA 31411.
