John Walker Crisp passed away at home on July 9, 2018.

John was born in New York City on March 17, 1940 to the late George Bennett Crisp of Falkland, NC and Rachel Almeda Walker Crisp of Arlington, GA. He grew up in Harlingen, TX and Atlanta. He graduated from the Georgia Military Academy in 1958 and The Citadel in 1962. Upon graduating from The Citadel, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army. He spent two years with the Third Armored Cavalry in Kaiserslautern, Germany. In December 1964, after completion of his military service, he joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a Special Agent where he worked assignments in Texas, Ohio and Georgia. He retired from the FBI in December 1992 after 28 years of service. Upon retirement he established Crisp & Associates, a private investigation agency which is still active.

John was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a firearms instructor for the Bureau and an award winning competitive marksman. He ran and trained dogs for pointing field trials in Ohio, where his German Shorthaired Pointer won a National Championship. A voracious reader, he was a student of history, especially of world history. He was a former member of the Forest City Gun Club, the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Tybee Light Sail and Power Squadron and the Savannah Sport Fishing Club. John was a member of Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church and the Savannah Yacht Club. He enjoyed spending time with his beloved family, and in later years, with his friends at the the "Bilge Club."

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judith Poyner Crisp and his children Susan Crisp Valenti (Michael) of Greenville, SC, Laney Crisp McClure (Cullen) of Atlanta, George Bennett Crisp, II of Savannah and his grandchildren Matthew, Emma, Gracie and Dominick; his sister-in-law Carole Poyner of Columbia, SC, his niece Lori Poyner of Atlanta and her children Jake and Carlee and nephew Alvin Q. Poyner, II of Columbia, SC.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
