Stanley Murray Karsman Obituary
Stanley Murray Karsman ("Spud") - Born on December 26, 1938, in Savannah, GA, Stanley died on May 15, 2018, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. A proud Eagle Scout, Stanley graduated from Savannah High School and attended the University of Georgia, where he walked-on to the golf team and completed his undergraduate and law degrees in six years. At UGA, Stanley was a member of the Law Review and was responsible for hosting Attorney General Robert Kennedy for Law Day in 1961. In 1962, Stanley was admitted to the Georgia Bar and began a distinguished legal career of nearly 50 years. An exceptional trial attorney, Stanley was well-known and well-respected among the Georgia Bar. Stanley began his legal career at the Savannah Port Authority and later opened his own civil defense law firm. Most recently, Stanley practiced at Karsman, McKenzie & Hart. Stanley served on the Civil Justice Reform Act Committee from 1991-1994 on behalf of Chief Judge B. Avant Edenfield. Stanley loved practicing law and was a master storyteller; he could recount the facts of every case he had tried, and loved to explain the complexities of those cases to his family. When not practicing law, Stanley could be found at the Savannah Golf Club, where he played golf (and gin rummy) every Wednesday with his buddies for decades. Stanley adored his dogs and had a passion for fishing, art, history, books and coins. Stanley's greatest love was his grandchildren. Stanley is survived by his wife, Simone Karsman; son, Ward Karsman; daughter Stacy Sullivan; son, Chase Karsman (Erin); daughter, Morgan Robertson (Chris); seven grandchildren who Stanley ("Papa") cherished: Lily, Chloe and Claire Karsman; Grant, Raegan and Natalie Robertson; and Janna Sullivan; niece, Harriet Shaughnessy (Joe). Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Evelyn ("Ebbie") Karsman of Savannah, and his sister, Elayne Austin (Tommy) of Hilton Head.

Funeral service will be at Bonaventure Cemetery at 2:30 pm on Thursday, May 17, 2018. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Gary Sinise Foundation. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the many nurses, doctors, and friends who have shown care and compassion for Stanley and his family for the past several years.
