Marlene Rogers Obituary

Marlene Frances Rogers - HINESVILLE - Marlene Frances Rogers, 73, is at peace with the Lord. Marlene passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2017 while under the care of Hospice of Golden Isles. She was a resident of Liberty County for 25 years. Marlene was a retired educational technician from the Ft. Stewart School System. She was born in El Reno, Oklahoma. At age five her family moved to Union City, Pennsylvania. Marlene graduated from Union City Area High School. She attended Penn State and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. While at Penn State she met Charles, her husband of 51 years, in Economics class. They were married in 1966 and spent 30 years as an Army family, living 8 years in Germany and 22 years at various stateside posts. Marlene loved the adventure of being an Army spouse. She was a member of Allenhurst Presbyterian Church and attended the adult Penn Sunday School class. On Mother's Day 2016 Marlene was honored by being made an Honorary Life Member of the Presbyterian Women (PCUSA). She was a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association, life member of the Associates of the Vietnam Veterans of America and life member of the DAV Axillary. Marlene was a member of Button Gwinnett Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She was recognized a Guardian of the Clan Macpherson for her support of the Clan Museum in Scotland. Marlene was a good mother, and wife as well as a faithful Nittany Lion. She will be missed by all whose life she graced; rest in peace dear lady. WE ARE........PENN STATE! Survivors: husband, Charles Robert Rogers of Hinesville; two sons (both Penn State graduates), Robert Charles (Carla) of Seneca, SC and David Llewellyn (Natalie) of Newark, DE; grandson, Klaus Robert and granddaughter Louise Ann Marlene both of Newark, DE.; mother, Pauline Smrcka and two brothers, Arnold Smrcka (Janet) and Mark Smrcka of Union City, PA as well as five nephews, three great-nephews and two great-nieces. Visitation: Visitation will be held Friday, January 13, 2017 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home in Flemington. Funeral: Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Allenhurst Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ben Beasley and Rev. Hermon Scott officiating. Burial will follow service in the church cemetery. Remembrances: The family has requested that in lieu of flowers that contributions can be made to the Allenhurst Presbyterian Church Vision Fund PO Box 29 Allenhurst, GA 31301. Thomas L.
