George Negron Obituary

Dr. George L. Negron, 81, entered eternal rest on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Hospice Savannah. He was born on December 4, 1936 in New York City to Mr. Saturnino and Mrs. Carmen Negron. He was a graduate of Xavier High School and completed his undergraduate studies at Saint Peter's College, both in New Jersey. He continued his medical coursework and residency in Psychiatry at the University Of Puerto Rico in 1962. Upon his graduation, he entered into the United States Navy serving as the Chief Medical Officer for various nuclear submarines. With distinguished service, he retired with the rank of Captain in 1985. In 1981, he married Yolanda Negron to which their covenant of love remained strong for 37 years. To this union, God richly blessed them with a blended family of eight children. Their family moved to Savannah in 1985 and became residents of the Landings community, upon his becoming the Medical Director of Charter Broad Oaks Hospital.

Embracing his strong spiritual upbringing, Dr. Negron joined the fellowship of the St. James Catholic Church, then he and his wife became founders of their non- profit, The Martin de Porres Society of Savannah. Their dedication and love in serving disadvantaged families and youth in our community has left a lastly legacy.

He was predeceased by his parents: Saturnino and Carmen Negron; Brother: Joseph Negron; Children: Michael and Lisa Negron.

He leaves cherished and lasting memories to his wife, Yolanda Negron and their children: Mark Negron of Boston, Mass, Beth Negron of Fairfield, Conn, Maria Gabriela Chavez - Verwiel of Savannah, Patricia Negron of Boston, Mass., Victor Alfredo Chavez of Tennessee, and Anna Paula Chavez of Atlanta, Ga., 14 Grandchildren, 1 Great Grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 6:00 P. M. on Friday, April 13, 2018 at St. St James Catholic Church, with the Rosary service at 6:00 P.M. Mass Of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018, 11: 00 A. M., at St. James Catholic Church with Father Mark Ross, Celebrant.

Just found out about Dr. Negron's passing. Such a kind and compassionate man! Worked with him at Georgia Regional years ago. Always available to sign an order to take patients out, he was their biggest advocate. A truly great man.

George was a wonderful friend and a great psychiatrist. He truly cared for his patients and mentored many health care workers including me. I will miss him and have a lot of fond memories of him. I loved all of his Navy stories. I am praying for all of you.
