Andrew Jackson McLemore, III, 89, died peacefully on Friday, March 5, 2021.
Andrew was born in Memphis, Tennessee, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Jackson McLemore, II. He was educated in Memphis Public Schools and graduated as an honor student from Booker T. Washington High School. He later entered the United States Army. Upon leaving the Army, he earned his Bachelor of Arts from Morehouse College and a Master of Science in Library Service from Clark Atlanta University. He started working at Miles College where he married Joyce Scott of Birmingham, Alabama in 1964. He later went on to earn an MBA from Georgia Southern University, and a Juris Doctorate from John Marshall Law School. He retired from Savannah State University as a librarian and began practicing law. He was a member of Butler Presbyterian Church where he served on the Men's Council. He was also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. He was an active member of The Southbridge Golf Club.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dr. Joyce McLemore. He also leaves behind his oldest son, Andrew Jackson McLemore (Bookie) IV, of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Mignon Pierce of Kensington, MD; daughter, Maria McLemore of Capitol Heights, MD, and son, Michael McLemore of Boynton Beach, FL, and six grandchildren. A son, Victor Allan McLemore, predeceased him.
A private service was held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Foxes and Weeks Chapel. He is buried at Greenwich Cemetery in Thunderbolt, GA.
