Gene Anderson Obituary

Gene Roy Anderson

Gene, 84 of Jamul, CA passed peacefully on January 16, 2013 with his wife of 64 years, Lorelei, by his side. He was born in Brownwood, TX on October 21, 1928 to Ruth Ellen Andrews and John D. Otto Anderson. After graduating from high school in Brownwood, Texas, Gene hitchhiked to CA with a buddy and only $20 between them. He found his career in the oil fields and married his high school sweetheart. Gene was a member of the Petroleum Club and formed a company with four partners and helped develop a directional drilling tool called the Dyna-Drill. With exclusive rights to the tool, he was contracted by the Atomic Energy Commission in the late 60's to drill underground nuclear test sites in Mercury, NV. Gene and Lorelei lived in Long Beach for 50 years and raised 2 sons. They lived in El Dorado as well as Spinnaker Cove. Gene and Lorelei owned and raced thoroughbred horses for over 40 years at all of the leading CA tracks. Besides his family, golf was his other passion. He scored 7 holes-in-one. Gene and his wife moved to Steele Canyon GC in Jamul, CA and resided there for the past 15 years. He was a founding partner of the Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrietta Springs, CA where he befriended fellow partner and golf legend Jack Nicklaus. Gene is survived by his wife, Lorelei; 2 sons, Larry Anderson (Brenda) of Chino Hills, CA, and Dr. Kevin Anderson (Mary) of Jamul, CA; 3 grandchildren, Victoria Knighton (Kyle) of Chino, Elizabeth Anderson of Honolulu and Thomas Anderson of Jamul; one great grandchild, Aubrey Knighton of Chino; 2 half-brothers and 2 half-sisters all of whom reside in Texas.
