John William Bradley
Age 87, passsed away peacefully on Thursday November 29 at his residence in Dolan Springs, AZ. John was born in San Bernardino & lived most of his entire life in the Inland Empire, mostly in Bloomington, before retiring to AZ. in 2006. John is survived by his son Frank Bradley from AZ., his daughter Loretta Holt from Bloomington, CA., grandchildren Mona and Travis Bradley and Nicole, Holly and Tige Holt, all from Southern California, as well as several nieces and nephews and their families.
John was known around the world as "Mr. Flathead" because of his lifelong affiliation with drag racing, a sport originating on the streets of Southern Califonia before becoming a professional organization sanctioned by the National Hot Rod Association, the NHRA. He holds many records in his chosen sport in the the 1/4 mile, and also speed records at both Bonneville and Lake Mirage. He was inducted into the NHRA Hall of Fame in 1994 because of his accomplishments.
Mr. Bradley was a Navy veteran of WWII and served aboard the USS Golden City and the USS Hercules, and was actively involved in five different combat Campaigns in the Northern Pacific arena. He was honorably discharged in 1946 at the conclusion of the war.
John will be layed to rest with Militay Honors on Friday, December 14 at 10:15 am at the Riverside National Veteran's Cemetary located at 22495 Van Buren Blvd in Riverside. In lieu of flowers his family requests that donations be made in his honor to any nationally recognized veteran's organization such as Wounded Warriors, USO, VFW, etc.
