Violet Klessig


A memorial honoring Violet Klessig, longtime English teacher at Whittier High School, will be held on June 20 at 2:00pm in the Whittier High School library. She passed away on April 26, 2014, at the age of 77.
She was born March 26, 1937, in Chilton, Wisconsin, and was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Clara Klessig. She is survived by her cousin, Edward Nelsen, Phoenix, and his three children, Michael and David Nelsen and Kathy Hamel.
Miss Klessig began her teaching career in Whittier at Monte Vista High School in September of 1964. In September, 1979, she transferred to Whittier High School and taught there until her retirement in 2000. Her contributions as an educator included coaching the Academic Decathlon team, writing curriculum, and mentoring new teachers. She patiently guided many students in improving their writing skills and understanding literature, as well as preparing them for life after high school. She generously shared out of her great store of books to enrich both students and colleagues.
