Abram Hodes MD
Abram Hodes MD passed away in his home November 28, 2013. Born in Jeannette, Pennsylvania in March of 1922, he graduated Jeannette High School in 1938; Penn State with Phi Beta Kappa honors in 1942; and Northwestern Medical School in 1946. He interned at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago and served residencies at Sea View Hospital in New York and Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
Dr. Hodes came to San Bernardino in 1950 as a county health officer. He later opened his own pediatric practice in 1951 until his retirement in 1988. He was a humble, caring, compassionate phyisican who loved his work and attended to all denominations regardless of social and economic status.
An active member of Temple Emanu El in San Bernardino where for 30 years he chanted Jonah during the high holy days, he was master violinist, and a charitable philantrhropist.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mildred, his sons Alan and Jay, his daughter in-laws, Karen and Esther, three grandchildren, Susan, Jacob, and Judith, and four great grandchildren, Rachel, Isabella, Hava and Jonah.
The funeral will be held Monday, December 2 at 1 PM at Mark B. Shaw Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to a .
