Dorothy Fessler Walker Obituary
Dorothy Fessler Walker Dorothy passed away on November 26, 2018 in Redlands, California. Dorothy was born November 21, 1922 in Far Rockaway, New York to John and Catharine Fessler. She graduated from Woodmere High in 1940 with honors and was celebrated by the Long island Girls' Association as an outstanding athlete. She loved to go dancing at Glen Island Casino, enjoying the big bands of Charlie Spivak, Benny Goodman, and the Dorsey Brothers. She listened with her high school sweetheart, Robert, to the news of Pearl Harbor as it was broadcast through the radio. Overnight, classmates enlisted, college was deferred, and the expectations of women changed radically. Dorothy volunteered on the home front and worked on Wall Street. Friendships forged in these years endured for over seventy years. Dorothy married Cadet Robert Henry Walker on Christmas Day, 1944. They were married for 68 years. As an Air Force wife, she shepherded her family through multiple moves and two more wars. Dorothy was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church. She served as a member of the altar guild at Trinity Episcopal Church in Redlands for forty-four years. Dorothy was an extraordinary woman in extraordinary times. Robert said Dorothy was the most genuinely kind person he ever knew. She was always stylish and the essence of a lady. Dorothy is remembered as someone who was gracious, and who expressed her faith by loving unconditionally. Dorothy is survived by three children, Robert Walker (LaOng) and Randi Walker of Redlands, and Sherry Glahn (Leo) of Bainbridge Island, Washington; five grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. Memorial services will be held December 8th at 10 AM at Trinity Episcopal Church, 419 Fourth Street, Redlands. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Trinity Altar Guild and The Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation, 110 East 42nd Street, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10017.
