Dr. Earl James "Jim" Fahringer
Claremont Symphony Orchestra music director emeritus, died on December 7, 2013 at the age of 78.
Dr. Fahringer dedicated his musical life to the CSO. Since 1959, he served as a string player, percussionist, vocal soloist, assistant conductor and music director from 1979-2010. He was also conductor of the Claremont Youth Symphony Orchestra for more than 20 years.
CSO colleagues share, "It is with deepest sadness that the Claremont Symphony Orchestra mourns Dr. Fahringer's passing. The orchestra was his family."
A crypt-side service will be held on Thursday, December 19 at 11 a.m. in the mausoleum of Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 1712 S. Glendale Ave. in Glendale. Members of the Claremont Symphony Orchestra will provide music and tributes. There will be a no-host luncheon following the service at the Glendale Sizzler. Dr. Fahringer will be honored at the two performances of the annual CSO Messiah Sing-along, which he initiated over 30 years ago. They will be held on Sunday, December 22 at 1:30 and 4 p.m. at Bridges Hall of Music, 150 E 4th St. in Claremont on the Pomona College campus. (Doors open at 1 and 3:30 p.m.)
