Jose M. Botello
Jose M. Botello better known as "Uncle Joe" passed away on December 17, 2017 in San Bernardino at the age of 99.
Joe was born in San Bernardino in 1918 to Guadalupe and Refugia Botello and was the 3rd eldest of 7 brothers and 4 sisters. He was preceded in death by his Mom and Dad, his brothers Luz, Jesus, Ralph, Ablino (Lin), and Julian, also a sister Linda Alvarado. Joe is survived by his sisters Mary Ibarra, Lupe Botello, Esther Montecino and brother Robert Botello.
Joe was a World War II Veteran who served in the Northern Pacific Theater of Operations in 1944. Joe was transferred to the Asiatic Pacific Theatre and was on the island of Palau when the war ended.
Joe was awarded "The American Defense Service Medal with Clasp", "The American Campaign Medal", " The Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal" and "The Good Conduct Medal".
After the war Joe returned to San Bernardino and became a Barber. Joe along with his brothers Ralph and Lin were members of the Famous "Mitla" Fast Pitch San Bernardino City Championship team of the the late 1940's.
Viewing will be on January 3rd from 4 to 8pm with Rosary at 6:30pm at Mt. View Mortuary. Services will be on January 4th at 10:00am also at Mt. View. Burial will follow.
