Ralph Medina Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father Ralph A. Medina on Monday, November 16, 2020 at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton. Ralph was born in 1929 and was a lifelong resident of Colton. He is survived by his loving wife Ruth of 67 years and children Mike (Melinda), Carmen (Gilbert), Carol (Donald), Ruth Ann (Jose), James (Veronica), John (Marie) and Emily (Mark). He also leaves behind 26 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Miguel and Elodia Medina, sister Armida Arrieta, son Ralph C. Medina, granddaughter Maya Medina and great grandson Ruben Medina. Ralph was a 1948 graduate of Colton Union High School. He was also a veteran of the United States Army where he served from 19491952, during the Korean conflict. After he was honorably discharged from the military, he learned the upholstery trade and eventually opened Ralph's Auto Upholstery and Glass in Colton. As a business owner, he sponsored many youth activity programs and supported local community leaders. He was also a longtime member of the American Legion Post 155 and the VFW Post 6476. He was known to his friends and family as the unofficial Mayor of South Colton. Once he retired, he enjoyed being involved with family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a parishioner at San Salvador Catholic Church where he would frequently walk to Mass with the love of his life. Our dad was the life of the party and he loved to celebrate at every special occasion. His motto, "Family is everything." He always made time to call his children and grandkids to make sure everyone was doing well. Dad, we love you and will miss your smile, but we know the perpetual light will shine upon you as we wait to join you in heaven. The family wishes to thank the staff of Fresenius Kidney Care Loma Linda and the Jerry L. Pettis Memorial Veterans Hospital for their care and support. Due to Covid-19, Funeral services will be private. A celebration of life will be held at a later date where friends and family can gather at a safer time.

Dad, I am going to miss you and our conversations on the phone and during our rides. You fought so hard to be here for us. I am so grateful that my grandkids got to know their Grandpa Ralph❤. They liked to talk about how you were in the army. You were so positive and never complained about your ailments. Your legacy will carry on through all of the generations of our family. Love your #1 dancing partner.

My sincere and deepest condolences to all of the Medina family. I grew up with the family and have very fond memories of Mr. Medina who treated me like another son. Still remember spending time at the shop and going to family get-togethers during the weekends. So grateful that I still got to see him earlier this year and spend some time with him and Mrs. Medina. I will miss our phone conversations. May God give all the family comfort knowing that some day you will join him in heaven.

Grandpa, we miss you dearly. Your positive spirit will live on through all of us, even when times are tough. You taught us to never give up and to always be grateful. We will miss seeing you at the kitchen table on Sunday mornings after church, but we will continue to be there with grandma. I know your spirit will be with us until we meet again.

To my family,
I love you all. And always remember: “It’s the only way to fly” and “Why do we get little pieces?” Our memories are some of the best, and we’re so blessed that we have such an amazing legacy with grandparents who love us dearly.
