Susan Marie Clemons
November 8, 1934 ~ May 28, 2018
Susan Marie King-Clemons of Rialto, California, a loving wife and mother and very kind person, entered into rest on May 28, 2018, at the age of 83. She was born November 8, 1934, in Mobile, Alabama. Susan graduated from Mobile County Training School in 1953. Susan attended Alabama State College from September 1953 to June 1955. She received a scholarship to Tuskegee College from the National Honor Society. She joined the United States Air Force in 1958 and married Maurice Clemons on June 27, 1959, at Norton AFB, in San Bernardino, California. Susan was a veteran who served in the Air Force from 1958 to 1963 (honorably discharged due to becoming pregnant). Susan received a Good Conduct Ribbon and Airman of the Month (Syracuse, New York) awards while in the Air Force. While in the military, Susan was stationed at San Antonio, Texas; Syracuse, New York; Cheyenne, Wyoming; San Bernardino, California; London, England; and Sacramento, California. She lived in Kansas City, Kansas and then Tokyo, Japan while Maurice served in the Vietnam War. Susan visited Paris, France and Niagra Falls. Susan and Maurice had three children and in 1971, the family moved from Japan to California and bought a home in the city of Rialto. Susan was a "stay at home" mother and as her children got older, she returned to college. In 1977, Susan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies from California State College San Bernardino. Susan received her teaching credential and began her teaching career as a substitute teacher in San Bernardino, Rialto, Muscoy, Colton, and Fontana area elementary schools. Later, Susan taught mentally handicapped patients at Patton State Hospital and subsequently at Shandin Hills Behavioral Therapy Center. Finally, Susan taught at the San Bernardino Adult School, helping students achieve their GED. Susan retired in 2001.
Susan was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Clemons; her father, Porter King; her mother Hattie Susie Owens King; and her siblings, Sam M. King; Melissa King; Porter King, Jr.; Mutesa O. King; and Alfred L. King.
Susan is survived by her three children, Kathleen L. Clemons of Rialto, CA; Maurice Terrence Clemons of Harker Heights, Texas; Eric S. Clemons of Rialto, CA; and four siblings, Edward R. King (wife Mamie) of Prichard, AL; Juanita C. King-Jackson (husband Reginald) of Mobile, AL; Gloria A. King of Mobile, AL; and Vincent F. King of Prichard, AL; and a host of nieces (notably Michelle King, Charesse Johnson, and Brenton Calhoun), nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Before dementia brought about behavioral changes and demanding times, Susan loved to sew, going to the movies, shopping, and visiting various places of interest in California.
