Lucy Montecino Romo, age 92, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2013 in Upland California.
Lucy was born July 23, 1921 in San Bernardino, California. She was the eldest of 8 children of Encarnacion Montecino and Petra Lopez Montecino. She was pre-deceased by both of her parents and 3 siblings, Carmen Montoya, Daniel Montecino and Jennie Gonzales. She is survived by 4 siblings, Andrea Hernandez (Ben), Adela Vasquez (Ramon), Lollie Gracia (Nacho) and Claudio Montecino, Jess Gonzales, brother-in-law, 1 daughter Irene Hernandez, 5 grandchildren, Patsy Valdes, Thomas Romo,Jr, Gina Morehouse, Lydia Gonzales, Anthony Romo, 13 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Lucy married childhood sweetheart Bruno Omelas in 1938 at San Segundo D'Asti Catholic Church in Guasti, CA. They produced 1 child, Irene, before his tragic death in 1940.
Prominent Chino grocer Jesus Romo heard about the lovely widow and searched her out in 1941, married her and had 2 more children who have pre-deceased her, Raquel Romo age 5 months in 1945 and Thomas Romo age 53 in 2000. Husband Jesus passed away in 1971.
Lucy was a strong, independent and determined woman with an 8th grade education and a beautiful singing voice. She worked first as a laborer, picking grapes for Cucamonga wineries and later with her marriage to Jesus Romo, learned all aspects of the grocery business and remained a grocer for the rest of her working life. She loved to travel and accomplished the trip of her dreams when she went to Spain in 2007 to trace her roots.
Visitation and rosary will be held at Draper Mortuary, 811 N, Mountain, Ontario, CA Tuesday September 24, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. (Rosary at 6:30) Mass will be at St. George's Catholic Church, Ontario, CA. 505 No. Palm Ave. Ontario CA on Wednesday September 25 at 10:00 a.m. followed by burial at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery, 1240 W. "G" Street, Ontario, CA
