Ann Smith Obituary

Ann (Chinchar) Smith passed peacefully Oct. 27, 2020, at St. Luke's Hospital-Miners Campus, Coaldale.

Born to the late Helen (Brennan) and John Chinchar, and a graduate of Marian Catholic High School, Ann lived her entire life in Tuscarora. She was employed by the Tuscarora garment factory for many years.

Ann had a true zest for life and laughter. She loved to gamble, and could be found riding the bingo bus, or playing the games on the boardwalk on family trips to Sea Isle City, N.J. (and sometimes sneaking off to Atlantic City). She was a devoted player of the Pennsylvania lottery, and looked forward to a good rub off every Christmas. In her later years, she loved watching game shows with her sister and friends, shouting out the wrong answers at the TV, and telling her dog, Miami, to keep it down.

Ann could always be counted on to make you laugh, whether with a story of wild times she had with her sister and their friends in their youth, telling you a dirty joke or surprising you by bringing out her prized jugs. Ann's many loved ones will take comfort in memories of Ann sending silly cards to her nephews, and her playful ribbing about their sex lives (or lack thereof). Her uncanny ability to bring joy to any room she entered will be sorely missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; beloved son, Danny; three brothers, John, Daniel and Joseph.

She is survived by her son, Robert and his partner, Patricia Fickett; the great loves of her life, grandson, Nicholas (Minneapolis, Minn.) and his children, Roman and Mercy, and granddaughter, Kayla (Bangor, Pa.) and her partner, Tim, and their daughter, Anwen. She is also survived by her lifelong best friend and partner in troublemaking, her twin sister, Marie (Chinchar) Kupetz (Tuscarora); countless nieces and nephews and extended family who loved her dearly.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Thomas J. Bartashus Funeral Home, New Philadelphia, with the Rev. Ronald J. Minner officiating. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service Friday. Interment will be in St. Bartha's Cemetery, Tuscarora.
