Clayton J. Herb, 98, of Schuylkill Haven, and formerly of Pitman, Hegins and Cressona, passed away Thursday at the home of his daughter-in-law.

Born in Klingerstown, June 1, 1915, he was a son of the late Lloyd S. Sr. and Mabel Clark Herb.

He attended school in the Pitman area and worked as a farmer and carpenter, retiring in 1980. He was also an insurance agent for the Woodmen of the World.

Clayton was a member of Faith Worship Center, Orwigsburg, and the Church of the Nazarene, Schuylkill Haven.

He was also a member of the Woodmen of the World Camp 433, Pitman, where he was a former trustee and served as lodge field man for many years.

Clayton was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed visiting all 50 states and many places outside of the states. He enjoyed playing pinochle, and family was very important to him.

On June 29, 1933, he married L. Beatrice Snyder Herb, who survives him. They were married 80 years. In January 2013, they were honored as the Longest Married Couple in the state of Pennsylvania and also received a special recognition from the House of Representatives.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruby; twin infant boys; two sisters, Grace Falck and Helen Fer tig; and a brother, Lloyd Herb Jr.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Gary A. Herb and his wife, Deborah, Pottsville; daughter-in-law, Linda Herb, with whom he resided; two granddaughters, Lisa Jones and her husband, David, and Ashley Ringquest and her husband, Jason; four great-grandsons, Bradley and Benjamin Jones and Matthew and James Ringquest; a great-great-grandson, Hunter Jones; and a brother, Wayne Herb.

A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Faith Worship Center, Orwigsburg, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Doug Cresswell and the Rev. Robert Berry officiating. Private interment will be in St. Paul's Evangelical Congregational Cemetery, Pitman. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Worship Center, P.O.
