Elizabeth Carduff McCarthy, 82, returned to our Lord on Dec. 4, 2017, in Houston, Texas, where she had recently moved to live with her daughter, Bridget.

Betty was born Sept. 13, 1935, in Ashland State Hospital and grew up in Mahanoy Plane. She was a daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Hobin Carduff. She graduated from Gilberton High School in 1953.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Francis X. "Champ" McCarthy. Betty and Champ were born three days apart in Ashland State Hospital.

She had a variety of jobs throughout her life, but the job she loved most was being a mom and grandmom. She will lovingly be remembered for her jovial personality and enormous heart. She brought a smile to all she met.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her five children, Kevin (Denise), Middletown, R.I., Karen Sorber, Barto, Patrick (Marisa), Chambersburg, Francis (Michelle) Bel Air, Md., and Bridget (James) Scandola, Houston, Texas. She is also survived by her siblings, Margaret (Raymond) Napoli, Camp Hill, Thomas (Janet) Carduff, Lansdale, Karthryn (James) Miller, Camp Hill, Susan (David) Johnson, Mechanicsburg, and Joseph Carduff, Harrisburg, as well as all her beloved McCarthy in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews.

The loves of her life were her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. She was blessed to have 15 grandchildren, Ceili, Thomas, Brian, Conor, Gabriel, Elizabeth, Hannah, Caleb, Patrick, Effa, Keirann, Kylie, Mathew, Cassidy and Kelsi. Her seven great-grandchildren are Finnian, Oliver, Lydia, Louisa, Exelia, Leo and Teaghan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, 250 E. Hancock St., Saint Clair, with Monsignor William F. Glosser as celebrant. A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the Mass. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Pine Street, Frackville. There will be a reception following at Immaculate Conception Hall, Dieners Hill, Saint Clair. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church Memorial Fund. Bruce T.
