Genevieve "Jean" Flaim, 97, of Mahanoy City, passed away Saturday, peacefully, at ManorCare Health Services, Pottsville.

Born in Mahanoy City on May 25, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Catherine Wieciech and George Piech.

She was a member of St. Casimir Parish and later St. Teresa of Calcultta Parish, Mahanoy City.

Jean graduated from Mahanoy City High School, Class of 1939. Her job as a waitress at Mika's Restaurant and Bar led her to meet and marry her future husband, Frank. Jean worked for City Shirt factory, Giesen's Restaurant and Bar and in her husband's store, Flaim's Grocery Store, for over 30 years.

Jean was a long-time member and past president of the Holy Rosary Society. Jean was an active member of the choir and church volunteer, decorating and cleaning the church.

Jean was wife of the late Francis D. Flaim for almost 68 years. Francis passed away on June 3, 2017.

She is preceded in death by a brother, Frank, and sisters, Veronica Kurtz, Mary Giesen, Kathryn Piech and Stella Werwinski.

She is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Krasnisky, Lansdale; a son, Frank Flaim, Exton; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Mahanoy City, at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Kevin P. Gallagher officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish. Interment will follow in St. Casimir Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to Fragile X in memory of Jean Flaim for her living great-grandson James Grande Jr. at fraxa.org/donate. Louis D.
