Michael A. Maurer, 37, of East Mahanoy Avenue, Girardville, passed away Sunday, surrounded by family, at his residence.

Born in Fountain Springs, he was a son of Mary Maurer Cress, Girardville, and the late James J. Cress.

He was a graduate of the North Schuylkill High School, Class of 1998, and was employed as a lead manager for the Canteen Distribution Center, Frackville. Michael was a member of the former St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Girardville.

Preceding him in death were sisters, Mary Elizabeth Cress and Katherine Claire Brozno, also grandfathers, Leonard F. Maurer and Joseph Cress Sr.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are daughters, Heather Maurer, Shenandoah, and Mikaela Maurer, Girardville; sister, Theresa M. Cress, Girardville; brother, James J. Cress Jr., Girardville; maternal grandmother, Maryann Maurer, Ashland; paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Cress, Girardville; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Prayer Service at 7 p.m. April 18 in Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, 1323 Centre St., Ashland. Officiating will be the Rev. Paul L. Rothermel, pastor of St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Parish. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. until service. Visit www.Fritzfuneralhome.com. Richard W.
