Thomas J. Collins, 83, of Barnesville, peacefully left us to be with his best friend and wife, Monica, on Dec. 3, 2017, in La Plata, Md., after a short illness. His children and their families were with him.

Born in Mahanoy City, he was a son of the late Peter and Letitia Elliot Collins.

He attended St. Canicus School and graduated from Mahanoy City High School before joining the Navy to serve in the Korean War.

Tom had been employed with and retired from Air Products.

Anyone that met Tom knew he was a hard-working family man with an always-active social life. He had weekly outings with friends and was an active member of the American Legion, AMVETS, Moose and the VFW. Tom was a man of great faith and attended Saturday evening Mass at St. Richard's Church, Barnesville.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents and wife, were an infant daughter, Beth, and his siblings, John, James, Joe, Helen and Margaret.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Stone; a son, Thomas Patrick Collins; sisters, Mary Klein and Tish Dougherty; a granddaughter, Shannon Stone and her husband, Billy Bishop; grandson, Thomas Collins; great-grandson, Camden Bishop; his best buddy, a chocolate lab named Trouble.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated by the Rev. Joseph Whalen at 10 a.m. Friday from St. Richard's Church, Barnesville. Interment with military honors will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Friends may call beginning at 9 a.m. Friday at the church. St. Patrick's Day attire (green) is requested. David D. Jarrett Funeral Home, Mahanoy City, is in charge of arrangements. Please visit www.jarrettfuneralhome.com for more information.
