John J. "Jack" Kephart, 71, of Mahanoy City, formerly of Pottsville, died Tuesday at home.

He was born Sept. 11, 1947, in Pottsville, a son of the late Joseph D. and Catherine Brennan Kephart.

He was a 1965 graduate of Nativity BVM High School. Prior to retiring, Jack worked for Penske Trucking, Ryder, Heatron Inc., DuraClean and NAPA. Jack was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville, where he was a van driver and a member of Men of Trinity. He was also a volunteer for the Pottsville Soup Kitchen.

Throughout his life, Jack was a steam engine locomotive enthusiast as a well as a heavy machine coal shovel enthusiast.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Marie Burke; a brother, J. David Kephart.

Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Cheryl Corby Kephart; a son, Joe Kephart and his wife Tammy, Pottsville; a daughter, Vickie Willier and her husband, Adam, Ephrata; four grandchildren, Haley Zerby, Caitlyn Kephart, Chelsea and Adalie Willier; nieces and nephews.

Service of Remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville, with the Rev. Chris Rothharpt officiating. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions made to Penn State Hershey ALS Clinic and Research Center, 30 Hope Drive, Hershey, PA 17033, or ALS Association Greater Philadelphia Chapter, 321 Norristown Road - Suite 260, Ambler, PA 19002. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville. Arrangements are under the care of James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville.
