Jay O. "Pop Pop" Mengel, 78, of McKeansburg, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday.

A native of Orwigsburg, Jay was an Air Force veteran, graduated from The Ford School of Business and worked for the Library of Congress. He retired from Lucent Technologies. Jay was a minister and member of the German Eldership Church of God. He also volunteered as the Auburn Cub Scout Master for several years.

He was preceded in death by brother, Myron Mengel, and sister, Georgine Schuster.

Jay will forever be remembered by his wife of 45 years, Julia, and three children, April, wife of Jesse Belsak, Jason, husband of Tien Mengel, and Wendy, wife of Michael Grustas. Jay will also forever be remembered by his five grandchildren, Rachel Stephens, wife of Brian, Tabitha Belsak, Caleb Belsak, Michael Schmeltzle and Caitlin Mengel-Angstedt; twin brother, Lee Mengel; sisters, Ruby Berger and Darlene Shiffert.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Steigerwalt's Church of God, McKeansburg. A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven. The family requests donations in Jay's memory, in lieu of flowers, to Auburn Youth Camp, P.O. Box 113, Orwigsburg, PA 17961. Hamilton-Breiner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
