Hazel J. Menchinsky Obituary

Hazel J. Menchinsky, 80, a lifelong resident of Williamstown, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2020, at Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Hazel was born June 26, 1940, in Williamstown, a daughter of the late Jack and Bessie Foster McNeal. She was a 1958 graduate of the former Williamstown High School.

She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Williamstown, where she was a member of PCCW and a former church secretary. She had a passion for genealogy and researching ancestors, and was often sought out for her expertise in finding descendants.

She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother and sister. Just like her mother, Hazel was gifted in culinary arts of baking and cooking. She spent many summers canning Len's garden crop for her family. She crafted many menus and meals for summer church camps. Hazel's kitchen was the center of family life, filled with love and laughter, a welcoming spot to share her favorite cup of hot tea and homemade sweets.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard J. Menchinsky, and a brother, Raymond McNeal.

She is survived by her children, Gwen Truett, of Virginia, Brad Miller, of Texas, Joseph Menchinsky, of Alaska, and Johanna Payne, of Georgia; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Whitehead, of Williamstown, and Jacki Stucki, of Lebanon; nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Williamstown, with the Rev. Michael Opoki, AJ, as celebrant. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Sacred Heart Church, c/o parish office, 732 Main St., Lykens, PA 17048.
