Stuart E. Frew Obituary

Stuart E. Frew, 83, passed away Nov. 20, 2020.

Born Feb. 25, 1937, in the Christian faith, on the family farm in Pine Grove, he was a son of the late Mark Frew and Annette Funk.

Preceding him in death was his brother, Mark.

He leaves behind his caring and devoted wife of 58 years, Mary (Mining), three children, Mark and the late Eryka (Marks) Frew and their two sons, Jacob and Gabe, of Pine Grove, David, his wife, Rona (Lehman) Frew, and their three daughters, Madeline, Rachael and Abigail, of Pine Grove, and Mary, her husband, Matthew Braccili, and their son and daughter, Matthew Jr. and Lauren, of Schnecksville. Also surviving are a sister, Annette Strause and her husband, Paul, of Schuylkill Haven; a brother, Mike and his wife, Jane, of Woodstock, N.Y.

He was a graduate of Tremont High School and Mansfield University. He started his 34-year teaching career at Bethlehem School District and Tremont High School, with the majority at Blue Mountain School District. He was an organist at area churches for over 65 continuous years, from Hetzel's UCC, Pine Grove, to Methodist-Presbyterian, Ashland, to First Baptist, Pottsville.

He was a gentle giant in both stature and character, who never spoke an unkind word. He lived his life with purpose and in service to others, quietly giving his time and energy to anyone in need. His passion for teaching and music sustained him; he loved to see children succeed and believed that there was no problem too large that couldn't be resolved over a fresh cup of coffee. He could tell you where to find an old spring and who had the best ice cream. He cherished his family and friends, spending every available minute with them.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you spend time with your family, do a kind act for someone in need or call a friend you haven't spoken to in a while; Stu would want it that way. Interment will be where it all began, at the family farm in Pine Grove, at the convenience of the family. Please share your thoughts and memories at Stuart E. Frew Memorial on Facebook.
