Emmeline Carl Stone Obituary

Emmeline Carl Stone passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov 21, in Chester, Va., where she lived the last three years with her loving son, George and his wife, Wendy. Both were by her side at the time of death. She left this earth to join family and friends that preceded her and now resides with our Lord and Savior.

Emmeline was a daughter of the late William Carl and Anna Harris Carl. Born June 19, 1922, in Pottsville, she graduated from Pottsville High School in 1940.

Emmeline married the love of her life, George R. Stone, in May 1941 at Trinity Episcopal Church, Pottsville. Together, they shared 54 years of marriage and had two sons, William C. Stone and George R. Stone Jr. She and her husband loved camping, especially with their grandchildren. They also enjoyed traveling and made many trips, including Hawaii, Florida and Branson, Mo.

She also loved baking and making fresh strawberry rhubarb jelly and, most of all, being with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Emmeline will be remembered as a fun-loving, outgoing woman, who enjoyed meeting and talking with all people. Emmeline was a real life "Rosie the Riveter" in a factory during the war, but was best known for the time she spent working at the delicatessens on Centre Street in Pottsville. She would work between the Market Basket and The Farmer's Market for the next 35 years.

Emmeline was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where she and her husband would volunteer in many activities, including picnics and teaching Sunday school. She supported Charles Baber Cemetery by purchasing trees to be planted and working during Baber Day. She loved to go to the casinos with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George; sister, Anna Maley; son, William; grandson, George R. Stone III.

Surviving are her son, George Jr. and his wife, Wendy, Virginia; grandchildren, Eric B. Stone and his wife, Bobbie, N.J.; Karissa Stone Crusan and her husband, Christopher, Virginia, William Stone and his wife, Julie, Pennsylvania, Jeffrey Stone and his wife, Allison, New Jersey, and Alicia Stone Graser and her husband, William, Massachusetts; widowed daughter-in-law, Eva Stone, Pennsylvania; past daughter-in-law and close friend, Carol Field, Pennsylvania; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec 5, in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven, with the Rev. Dr. Kurt K. Kovalovich officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville, for a funeral procession to the cemetery. A private family viewing will be held Friday, Dec. 4, at the funeral home. All COVID-19 safety measures are expected to be closely followed. Interment will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park. The family would prefer remembrances in form of contributions in memory of Emmeline be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, S. Centre St. and Howard Ave., Pottsville, PA 17901.
