William "Bill" Boylan Obituary

On Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, William "Bill" Boylan, loving father of two children, passed away at age 82.

Bill was born Sept. 12, 1938, to William and Rita (Schneider) Boylan in Ashland.

He worked for over 20 years as a postal carrier in the United States Post Office.

Bill loved horse racing. He spent many summers traveling to Saratoga Springs, N.Y., to play the ponies. He spent his time in the winters in Hallandale, Fla., attending Gulfstream Park to follow racing while there. He loved being a "snow bird." He loved all sports, but football and baseball were his favorites. He was an avid Eagles and Phillies fan. He loved playing cards and was often found at the local game at the garage. He also had a passion for all things Elvis. He loved Hawaiian shirts and wearing socks with sandals. He set his own fashion rules. He had his own language and invented his own words. Sometimes talking to him required a degree in "Billism." He was quick to help out others and used to mow the Veteran's Memorial in the Dale. He served in the Army from 1961-63 with a distinction for his marksmanship with a rifle.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Rita.

He is survived by his two daughters, Laura (Bruce) Hollingshead, of New Jersey, and his four-legged grand-animals and Karen (David) Dizney, of North Carolina; his grandchildren, to whom he referred as "The Herd," Sarah, Brendan, Kaitlin and Jacqueline. He is also survived by his sister, Rita Boylan, of Mount Carmel; his niece, Cheryl (Jonathan) Montigny, of Maryland; his great-nephew, Nathan; his great-niece, Isabelle.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 25, at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Ashland. The Rev. Brian Miller will officiate. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Locust Gap, with a viewing from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home, Ashland. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Saratoga WarHorse organization, www.saratogawarhorse.org, P.O. Box 461, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. Cards and words of sympathy may be sent to Karen Dizney at 125 Mac Jones Road, Moyock, NC 27958, or by visiting the funeral home. Visit www.kullfuneral.com.
