James David Purin Obituary

James David Purin, of Cape Coral, Fla., returned to his heavenly home Jan. 15, 2021, after passing away at Lee Memorial Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Jim was born Dec. 17, 1946, in Pottsville, to the late Louis Sr. and Laura (Tasso) Purin.

Jim was married to his best friend, Gloria (Brutchak) Purin, for 23 years until her passing in 2009.

After graduating from Pottsville Area High School, he enlisted in the Army. Jim later was a graduate apprentice for International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Local 13. His career as a union tradesman spanned 40-plus years. A man whose work ethic was second to none, Jim along with Gloria owned and operated their own business selling antique reproductions; they made friends far and wide while working "the trade shows."

In 2005, Jim and Gloria moved to Cape Coral, Fla., where they spent their retirement years. It was during this time that he became an active leader in Cape Coral BPOE, serving as the exalted ruler from 2017-18. He was an active leader in many nonprofit endeavors and was very proud of his charity work. Jim will certainly be remembered by his family and friends as being an outstanding chef with a love of good food, but it is his unwavering fundraising abilities that he may be most remembered for. His service to the community and his love of the culinary arts led him to create Friends of the Cape, an organization dedicated to feeding families in need. Jim worked closely with the staff of The Caring Center, Cape Coral, to distribute meals.

Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gloria, and his parents.

He is survived by his children, Christine Kostecky, wife of Michael Kostecky, of Tuscarora, James Purin, husband of Angela Purin, of Tamaqua, Melissa (McMaster) Pinkerton, wife of Tim Pinkerton, of Kresgeville, Meridith (McMaster) Megna, wife of Frank Megna, of Effort; grandchildren, Melanie, Michael, Steven and Adam Kostecky, Kaitlyn and James Purin, J.J. and Brynn Bogli, Bailey, Caitlyn, Kayleigh and Tim Pinkerton, Frank E. and Merissa Megna. He is also survived by his brother, Louis Purin, husband of Jan (Lewitzke) Purin, and Kathleen (Purin) Lynch.

Private services at the convenience of the family and interment will take place at a later date in Indiantown Gap. Anyone wishing to make a tribute in Jim's memory may donate to Cape Coral Caring Center Inc., 4645 SE 15th Ave., Cape Coral, FL 33904.
