Albert Bertten "Al" Kleszicsage Obituary
Albert Bertten Kleszicsage, 87, of Smyrna, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017.

Al was born in Kingston, Pa., on Feb. 25, 1930 to Albert B. and Mary (Drusba) Kleszics, who had emigrated from Hungary prior to WWI. The youngest in his family, "Bert" (as they called him) was predeceased by his parents, brothers Charles and Kal, sisters Ann and Grace, and his wife of 46 years, Frances (Hislop).

Al met Frances while he was stationed at Burtonwood Air Force Base, Liverpool, England, during the Korean War, where he rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant. They were married in a ceremony on the base in 1954, and Al brought Fran back to the states the following year, settling in New Jersey.

Al retired from a career in the United States Postal Service in 1990 after 26 years - first as a clerk and then as a carrier in the Dover branch. An avid hunter and fisherman in his younger years, Al became an equally avid gardener and woodworker later in life. He and Fran were also enthusiastic ballroom dancers, along with a group of friends mostly comprised of English, ex-pat wives and their American husbands.

Al is survived by his two sons and their wives: Keith and Debbie, with whom he lived, and Robert and Karen (Ashley). Four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, his brothers-in-law Robert Hislop and Alan Hislop (Cynthia), as well as his nieces and nephews and the extended Fletcher family also survive him.

All who knew Al will miss his kind, gentle and generous nature and his wry sense of humor. As per the self-described "old goat's" request, a celebration of his life will take place during a backyard picnic on Saturday, July 22, at 4 p.m. at 711 W. Mt. Vernon Street in Smyrna. All who knew him are invited.

Al's family would like to thank all the relatives and friends who would stop by and check in on him from time to time, as well as his recent caregivers at Pinnacle Rehab Center in Smyrna.
