A Memorial Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in St. Joseph, for Joseph C. "Joe" Schindler, age 90 of St. Joseph, a gentle man, who passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at the St. Cloud Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Reverend Jerome Tupa, OSB will officiate. Interment of the Urn will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls with Military Honors on Wednesday.
Family and friends may call after 12:00 noon on Tuesday at the church in St. Joseph. Arrangements are with the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Joseph.
Joe was born on September 7, 1922 in St Joseph Township to Henry C. and Theresia (Reischl) Schindler. Joe was the second oldest of eight children. Joe began his working career at the age of 14 following his graduation from the 8th grade at St. Joseph Parochial School. He worked for a time on his uncle's farm and then was employed by St. Benedict's Convent and College. He was drafted into the United States Army during the Second World War and served in Germany in a medical supply depot. After his discharge he returned to St. Benedict's. He worked at St. Benedict's for a total of forty years most of which was in the Powerhouse.
Joe was an active member of the St. Joseph Volunteer Fire Department in its formative years and served in that capacity for many years. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish in St. Joseph and the St. Joseph V.F.W. Post # 5773.
Joe is survived by his brothers and sisters. Sister Dalene (Marie) Schindler, St. Benedict's Monastery; John Schindler (Evelyn) of St. Joseph; Sister Martina (Agatha) Schindler of St. Scholastica's Convent, St. Cloud; Alphonse, Albert and Magdalene (Maggie) Schindler of St. Joseph; three nieces, one nephew and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Henry and Theresia and his sister Elaine (Elizabeth).
The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to all of the staff on Five North at the St. Cloud Hospital and the staff at the VA for their loving care of Joe and his family.
