Myrtle Schlueter Obituary

Myrtle W. Schlueter, 97

Sauk Rapids

May 28, 1916 - June 18, 2013

Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, June 24, 2013 at the Good Shepherd Chapel in Sauk Rapids, for Myrtle W. Schlueter, 97, of Sauk Rapids, who died on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home. Rev. Don Wilke will officiate and burial will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls. Relatives and friends may call from 10:00-11:00 AM, Monday morning at the Good Shepherd Home.

Myrtle was born in Echo, Minnesota to Frank and Lydia (Bartz) Neitzel. She graduated from college with a Master's Degree in Education. Myrtle proudly served her country during World War II in the Navy WAVES, teaching pilots to fly at night from 1943-1945. She married Hubert Schlueter on December 26, 1948, and was a school teacher in rural Popple Creek and in St. Cloud School District 742 for twenty years. She also taught at SCSU Lab School from 1950-1959. She retired from teaching in 1976. Myrtle provided child care for many years following her retirement.

Myrtle and Hubert loved German Shepherds, and she was also fond of needlework, knitting and crocheting, and loved chocolate. Her faith was very important to her, and she was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Music was also an important part of Myrtle's life. She taught piano, served as church organist, and enjoyed playing hymns and spirituals into her later years. Myrtle was dedicated to serving her church, community and her country throughout her life. She will be dearly missed.

Myrtle is survived by her sister, Lillian Mugaas, Hopkins, MN, many nieces and nephews, and the many students who touched her heart throughout the years.Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hubert, May 15, 2006; brother, Reuben Neitzel; sister, Dorothy Larson; and infant brother, Franklin.

Myrtle's family wishes to thank the wonderful, caring, compassionate staff at Good Shepherd Community for their loving care of Myrtle in the last years of her life.

I was employed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church when Myrtle and Hubert were members. I grew to love both of them for their positive and joyous attitudes. I learned much of life from them, always given with love. My sympathies to the family. Myrtle was a great lady. Cora Williams, Conifer, CO

What a perfectly delightful lady. I have never forgotten her kind approach
to teaching me to love children and their capabilities. Patience and her beautiful smile made my student teaching at SCSU (1953)a pure pleasure. Thank you, Myrtle. I extend my sympathy to Lillian & others who will miss her.
