Jon Alan Nelson, 36, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2012, in Boston, Massachusetts after a courageous battle with a rare form of cancer (Nut Midline Carcinoma). Following Jon's diagnosis he continued to live his life with a goal of making this world a better place for everyone. With hopes for a cure for his own cancer and his sights set on helping the medical community develop a drug that would possibly cure many forms of cancer, Jon agreed to enter into a phase one drug trial with Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Massachusetts.

Jon will be remembered forever as a Great Dad and Wonderful Husband. We will forever miss Jon's great sense of humor and his loving touch. Jon was an avid sportsman who enjoyed many outdoor activities, but most of all he enjoyed coaching and spending time playing ball with his four young boys. Jon was employed by Hormel for 13 years and also served as a volunteer on the Hayfield Fire Department where he proudly served his community.

Jon Alan was born on December 29, 1975, in St. Cloud, MN the son of Virgil and Bonnie (Hodik) Nelson. He was united in marriage to Holli Eickhoff on August 9, 1997, in St. Joseph, MN.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Albert and Elsie Hodik, Charles and Emily Nelson, and a close friend, Dan Knopp.

Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 4, 2012, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 501 2nd Street NW in Hayfield, MN (507-477-2259), and one hour before the service at the church on Friday.

Blessed be his memory.

Many years ago Jon was our waiter when we ate at McMillans. He is the kind of person who walks into a room and makes everyone feel good about themselves. WE have never forgotten his fun sense of humor, his kind smile, and his laughing eyes. Our sympathies go out to all of him who loved him.
