Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Herbert "Herb" Proell who passed away on June 27, 2014 at the Good Shepherd Memory Cottages in Sauk Rapids. Friends and family may gather one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the church. Rev. Thomas Knoblach will officiate and interment will be in Assumption Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in St. Cloud.
Herb was born March 16, 1919 in Melrose, MN to Bernard and Elizabeth (Schuerman) Proell. He married Eleanor Brang on August 26, 1941 in Meire Grove, MN. He proudly served his country during WWII and was stationed in Panama. Herb was a life-long member of the VFW Post 428. After his honorable discharge, he made his home in St. Cloud where he and Eleanor raised five children. He worked for Purity Dairy, the Burlington Railroad, and for School District 742 as a maintenance engineer for 23 years. After retiring at age sixty five, he delivered meals to senior citizens in Foley. An avid fisherman, Herb fished year long, never seeming to mind the cold or heat. He loved listening to Old Time music in person or on the radio. The MN Twins could count him as a big fan. He loved woodworking and anything Western. Herb was friendly and outgoing; he could always make people laugh.
Herb is survived by his children, Joan Mosher of Wauconda, IL, Mark (Irene) of Bloomington, MN, Gary (Glenda) of St. Cloud, Joyce (Ken) Kenevan of Sauk Centre, MN, Jeffrey (Maureen) of Sauk Rapids, MN; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brother Leonard Proell and sister Doris Mcleod and many other friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eleanor in May of 2014; seven siblings, Marie Moening, Katherine Borgman, Alphonse, Richard, Raymond, Arnold, Laura; and son-in-law Tom Mosher.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Good Shepherd Memory Cottages for the excellent care they provided Herb. Blessed be his memory.
