David J. Bettison

St. Paul - David J. Bettison, 77, formerly of St. Cloud, died on July 20, 2018 at Rakhma Joy Home in St. Paul, MN after living with dementia for nearly a decade.

Born on January 6, 1941 in Omaha, NE to Mavis (Gillis) and Richard Bettison. David grew up in Minnesota and Colorado, graduating from Wheatridge High School in Denver in 1959. He attended college in Pueblo, CO, and at the University of South Dakota, where he met his wife of 25 years, Linda Schooler of Pierre, SD. They were married in December 1964.

David earned his pharmacy degree from the University of Colorado in May 1968. In 1980, David started the clinic pharmacy at Central Minnesota Group Health Plan (then known as CMGHP; now Health Partners) in St. Cloud, and served as its chief pharmacist. He was also a hospital and retail pharmacist in central Minnesota and in Colorado before his retirement. David was adventurous, outgoing, and intellectually curious. He enjoyed mountain living, long distance running, camping, sailing, skiing, motorcycle riding, reading, and was a lifelong music lover. David especially enjoyed spending time with his extended family and friends, counseling patients, and sharing stories and kindnesses with fellow travelers.

David is survived by three children: Michael (Brenda Hudson), St. Paul, Stacy L. Bettison, Eden Prairie, and Jennifer (Ian) Carroll, White Bear Lake; seven grandchildren; sister, Susan (Bettison) Shuff, Reno, NV; aunt Jane (Gillis) Pierce of Denver, CO; cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Memorial service is Sept. 8 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, St. Cloud. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Rakhma, providers of residential memory care. For more information, visit rakhma.org
