Joan Bot Obituary
Joan Marie Bot, 85

St. Cloud

Jan. 27, 1928 - Nov. 7, 2013

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church for Joan Marie Bot, 85, who passed away Thursday, November 7, 2013 at St. Benedict's Community Center. Rev. Thomas Knoblach will officiate. Friends and relatives may call from 5:00-8:00 PM on Monday at the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in St. Cloud and one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church. A special prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM during the visitation.

Joan was born the fifth of six children to Anton and Cecilia (Plaster) Bromen. She grew up in Marshall, Minnesota and married Norman Bot from Ghent, Minnesota on August 5, 1950. While in high school, Joan excelled at playing the clarinet, saxophone and piano. Throughout much of her life, she enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards, and playing piano. While living in St. Cloud, Joan was involved in BeFriender Ministry as well as religious education at Holy Spirit Church. During part of the twenty years she and her husband resided in Florida, she was involved in the Stephen Ministries.

Joan's family and friends have been graced by her acts of kindness, generous listening skills, humor, and unconditional love. She strove to recognize and affirm the unique gifts in each of her children and siblings. Her natural attention to detail was fine-tuned in business school and carried over into her ability to organize the activities of a household of seven. She took delight in leading her young grandchildren in marching bands around the yard, concocting funny faces and sounds to make them laugh, and reading favorite storybooks with great expression. Joan's willingness to participate in a wide gamut of activities during the four years she was a resident at Benedict Village was an inspiration to us all. She enjoyed attending the organized, festive celebrations and concerts, playing bridge, and taking painting and exercise classes.

Survivors include her husband, Norman; children, Sandy (John) Bot-Miller and Mike (Mary Jo) Bot of St. Cloud, Katie (Larry) Heikens of Spencer, Iowa, Deb (Brad) Heppner of Pittsburgh, PA, and Tim (Pat) Bot of Chaska; twelve grandchildren, Brian, Michelle, Ryan, and Bella Bot, Robin (Heather), Meghan, and Micah Bot-Miller, Jenn (Alex), Josh and Kelly Heikens, and Alex and Kelly Heppner; sisters Leona Wielde, Jinny VanRobays, Doris Claeys and Cecelia "Nonny" Fier.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Howard; and granddaughter, Erika Bot-Miller.

Joan's family would like to thank all of Joan's caregivers during the past seven months for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Cloud Hospital Hospice, Quiet Oaks Hospice, or St. Benedict's Community Center are requested.
