Shirley M. Larson (nee Blondeau), 82

Sartell, MN - Shirley M. Larson, age 82, Sartell, MN died November 23, 2017.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 11:30 AM at St. John's Episcopal Church, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Entombment in the columbarium at St. John's Episcopal Church will happen at a later date.

Shirley was born February 4, 1935 in Houston, TX to Paul D. and L. Louise Blondeau. Shirley graduated from Kellogg High School in 1953 and St. Patrick's School of Nursing in Missoula, MT in 1956. She began her nursing career in a clinical setting and later moved into various aspects of hospital work. It was in this setting she met and married her husband Edward and started her family. Over the years there were stints as a camp nurse both at Glacier National Park and for Campfire Girls summer camp.

It was in her role as a teacher that Shirley flourished; she enjoyed applying her nursing skills and teaching students the finer points of her chosen profession. After the family relocated to the Pacific Northwest, Shirley returned to hospital work as a Head Nurse in the Pharmacy and IV Departments.

A couple of family relocations later, Shirley found herself attending the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, MN where she earned a BA Degree in Political Science in 1983. As an intern project, she worked for the Office of Gov. Rudy Perpich. After graduation, she continued to work for the Governor's office; leaving her position for a regional HMO as a legislative liaison combing both her nursing and political science degrees.

Another family relocation found her back in the Pacific Northwest where she became co-owner of an art gallery in Woodinville, WA.

Returning to Minnesota in the mid 1990's Shirley returned to working in a clinical setting. She also was a workplace wellness coordinator and parish nurse prior to her retirement.

Shirley was an avid reader, gardener, she enjoyed gourmet cooking and entertaining and was and enthusiastic traveler. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church for the past 20 years, serving in various volunteer activities. Shirley also was an Oblate in the Order of St Benedict Community of Central Minnesota.

Survivors include her loving husband, Edward H. Larson of Sartell, MN; daughter Susan K. Larson of Apple Valley, MN; brother A. (Bernie) Blondeau of Post Falls, ID.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Paul D. Blondeau Jr. and sister Robbie F. Orr.

After spending a lifetime in the medical health care industry Shirley's bodily remains have been donated to the University of MN Medical School.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to CentraCare Hospice or the Alzheimer's Foundation.
