Florian Broda Obituary
Florian Broda, 92

St. Cloud

Aug. 29, 1921 - May 11, 2014

Funeral services will be 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at the Daniel Funeral Home Chapel in St. Cloud for Florian Broda, age 92 of St. Cloud who passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2014 after a battle with Multiple Myeloma at the St. Cloud Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Reverend Gregory Lieser will officiate. Private interment will take place with military honors at Assumption Cemetery, St. Cloud.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until time of service on Wednesday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud.

Florian was born August 29, 1921 in Granite Ledge Township, Benton County, Minnesota to John and Barbara (Kuzma) Broda. He helped on the family farm during his younger years and joined the Civilian Conservation Corps during the depression. He lived in the Chicago area until his draft into the U.S. Army during WWII. After his service was completed he returned to Minnesota and married Jeanette Lehmeier on September 12, 1947 at St. Mary's Cathedral in St. Cloud. He also worked many varied part-time jobs to earn extra money to build his and Jeanette's dream home. He was a hard worker and very frugal with his money building most of the home by himself. Being a self-taught carpenter, he was very proud of this accomplishment. He was also a self-taught musician and played with an instrument called "ukelin" using a thumb pick and bow. He entertained almost all of his life. First as a child in school pageants and bazaars, then as a young adult in shows in the military, dance halls and bars in the area and later years for parties, reunions and nursing homes. Macular Degeneration brought an end to entertaining and that is when he discovered casino busses, going on as many day trips as possible. He loved the camaraderie of his "Casino Bus Family" telling endless jokes and meeting new people. On his days "off" he would meet with friends for coffee and lively discussion. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post #428.

He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Imholte of St. Cloud; in-laws, Joseph and Rita Lehmeier, Clarence and Annella Schwartz, Robert and Carol Stip.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeanette; brothers, John Jr., Lawrence, Norbert and Dakota "Roy"; sisters, Frances Dahler, Florence Schlicht, Delores Beutz and Gloria Prom.
