October 15, 1929 ~ June 25, 2014

Funeral services celebrating the life of John E. Riffe Sr., 84, of Paynesville will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 30, 2014 at Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville.  John passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at the St. Cloud Hospital.  Reverend Ric Koehn will officiate.  Burial with military honors will be in the Manannah Cemetery, Manannah.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville and after 9:00 a.m. on Monday at the church.  The Oddfellows and Rebekahs will pray at 4:30 p.m.  followed by the Paynesville American Legion Post #271 at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.  Arrangements are with Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville.

John was born on October 15, 1929 in Delano, Minnesota to Ernest and Alice (Sturman) Riffe. He graduated from Delano High School in 1947 and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954.  He married Deanna C. Johnson on August 13, 1965 at Delano United Methodist Church. The couple farmed in the Delano, Maple Plain, Browerville and Sauk Centre areas. The family has lived in the Paynesville area since 1988. John was a member of Grace United Methodist, the Oddfellows and Rebekahs and the Paynesville American Legion Post #271.

He enjoyed playing cards, gardening, and spending quality time with his family.

John is survived by his children, Jean (Barry) Hazelwood of Topeka, Kansas, John, Jr. (Jody) of Elk River, Jody (Paul) Dirckx of St. Cloud; seven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Deanna in 2013; brother, Roger; and sister, Marilyn Carlson.
