I met this man when I remodeled their upstairs bathroom for his first wife...this man gave me a autographed book that he wrote and showed me different ways to solve problems. I am sorry I didn't go to his funeral. He will be deeply be missed by me. He also told me his journeys to the arctic and the stuff they seen.

How blessed am I to have been able to call him Dad. I will try to at least come close to his example. My heart hurts so much but, I know he would say, this too shall pass. Thanks much to all for your entries of love and comfort.

I was privileged to work with Walt on the 1968 Plaisted Polar Expedition. Walt was caring, warm, friendly, helpful and filled with an overflowing boundless energy that conquered the most daunting situations during the expedition.
His mechanical abilities and inventiveness were without equal.
Walt was brave, funny, tenacious and a good story teller. He had a lot of "horse sense" and just plain "guts".
There are many fond memories of a rich and intense time on the ice.
I am honored to have known him and very sad to see him go.

My deepest sympathies to all of Walt's family and friends. Let all your wonderful memories of this exceptional man bring you comfort and joy.

I will always cherish many fond memories of my one-of-a-kind cousin-in-law. From his visits to our home in Wheaton (way back during the last century), to a more recent breakfast out in California (with even more cousins) every opportunity to spend time with Walt was a wonderful experience.

Sincere condolences on the passing of Walt. My Mom & Dad thought so highly of Walt and your family. I remember Walt from visits when he was in Duluth and he signed an "Adventures of The Little Lady" for my son! Walt was a great man and will be missed but we are all richer for having had him in our lives. God bless you all, our thoughts and prayers are with you!
Sincerely, Walt, Denise & Arik Aufderheide

I remember Walt when he was a Ski Doo dealer. I was the parts and warehouse supervisor for Halvorson Equipment in Duluth. He was a fine person and told me lots of tales when they returned from the trek to the North Pole. I had many conversations with him over those years and have fond memories of him. RIP my friend.

Tim, Cheri, Cathy, Cindy, and Mark, I felt such sadness in my heart when I heard that your father passed away. He was "one of a kind" and I am happy to count him among my friends. Even tho' we rarely saw each other, I have such warm memories of our days at Calvary, and when we saw your dad at Harry O's 90th birthday party, we had a wonderful visit. He is rejoicing in heaven with his Savior, and we are so thankful for his faith and trust in God alone. Please accept my love and sympathy.

i am so very sorry to hear about walt's passing. i feel blessed to have encountered such a wonderful man! my dad, jean-luc, who passed when i was 10, was on the plaisted polar expedition with walt in '67 & '68. walt was very kind and thoughtful sharing stories & memories of my dad with me. his words, little lady book, figurines of the expedition members are all treasures i cherish. his lasting impression for me is his love of God, life, family, friends, he was creative, fun, generous, caring, courageous, adventurous. he is already missed! love & condolences to the family from me and my whole family, who also admired and respected walt. always, brigitte bombardier & dale willingham
