Jeffrey Kiffmeyer Obituary

Jeffrey Kiffmeyer, 54

St. Cloud

June 27, 1959 - March 30, 2014

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 pm Saturday, April 5, 2014, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in St. Cloud, MN, for Jeffrey (Jeff) Kiffmeyer, age 54, who lost his eight-month battle with cancer on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at the St. Cloud Hospital surrounded by his family. Friends and relatives may call from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at St. Anthony's.

Jeff was born on June 27, 1959, in St. Cloud, MN, to Leonard A. and Delores (Schill) Kiffmeyer. After graduating from St. Cloud Apollo High School, Jeff moved to Alaska where he began his work in construction, ultimately becoming a heavy equipment operator with ENSTAR Natural Gas Company.

Jeff spent many years in Alaska enjoying the fishing, hunting and hiking the rugged area offered as well taking care of his home outside of Kenai/Soldotna. Jeff also enjoyed snow skiing at Alyeska with his brother Brad and his family who also resided in Alaska. Jeff eventually moved to California where he continued his work with a cable company, burying cable across the state. He returned to Minnesota in 1991 where he operated a drag line in "the sandbox," as he called it, for Granite City Redi Mix until they were acquired by a larger company. Jeff then joined Manion's Wholesale Building Supply in St. Cloud, MN, where he was always treated as a member of the family.

Jeff was known for his strong work ethic, one of his greatest attributes. He loved taking part in the annual Walleye opener with family and friends, and the deer opener in Orr, MN, with his brother, nephews and cousins. Jeff was an avid Vikings fan and enjoyed the US Open Tennis tournament on TV. He was an excellent cook and was "in charge" of the grill at family gatherings. His true passion was caring for and growing with his loving companion, Jana, and her children Briana and Mitchell.

Jeff is survived by his mother of Waite Park, MN, brother Ron ( Jenny) of Brainerd, MN, sister Lori of Shakopee, MN, sister-in-law Teresa Kiffmeyer of Soldatna, AK, brother-in-law Doug Decarlo of Plymouth, MN, and his best friend and true love, Jana Johnston-Peterson and her children, Briana and Mitchell, along with his beloved pugs, Frank and Gilly.

Jeff was preceded in death by his father Leonard in 1985, brothers Joel in 1990 and Brad in 2000, sister Karen DeCarlo in 1997 and step-father Larry Tomporowski in 2013.

Jeff's family wishes to thank Deb Corrigan, Dr. Mark Hauge and Dr. Andre Mitchell of the Coborn Cancer Center, along with the staff and wonderful nurses at the St. Cloud Hospital oncology unit for the tremendous care and compassion they gave Jeff over the past eight months.

Memorials are preferred to the St. Cloud Hospital Hospice.

To my dear friends and family of the Kiffmeyer family: It is with a heavy heart I send my deepest condolences today regarding the loss of Jeff. Not a day goes by that I don't think of and recall the enjoyable times I shared with Jeff and the entire Kiffmeyer family. It was his smile I remember the most. Day or night, that smile would light up a room and we all new, "Jeff's here, let the games begin". A most memorable evening was playing poker with Lenny, Ron, Jeff, Joel and myself. We played all night long. There was another weekend at the hunting cabin in Randall MN that will forever bring a smile to my face. We hunted, we laughed, and of course, we made it to a watering hole in Randall. God Bless you all. Jeff will be missed. Dan, Laura and Aidan Cashman - Lakewood, Colorado

You will be missed, Jeff. You were always such a fun guy to be around. I'll never forget the time you surprised me when you showed up at the heavy equipment office I was working at in Alaska. It was great to see your smiling face so far away from where we grew up. God bless you, Jeff. Rest in peace...
