YORK, Maine - Elizabeth "Betty" Anne Bolton Gailey, 85, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 29, 2018, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Lowell, Mass., on August 5, 1932, a daughter of Bertrand and Jane Bolton.

Betty was quit simply one of the best people we've ever known. When we moved to New Castle in 2005, the boys (then 5 and 4) quickly considered her their local "grandmother". She volunteered to read with the children at MHT and my favorite memory is walking in to see my son Willem sitting on her lap, listening to her read, while he sucked his thumb. Peter also adored her and they loved to play with the toys in her living room left from her own grandchildren. Later, as a single parent, she became my greatest mentor and spiritual guide. Through her, I learned what a loving relationship is by the stories about her beloved husband, John. As the boys grew up they shoveled snow for her, loved to go to IHOP with her and stop by for visits. I cannot express my admiration and love and appreciation for her enough and Peter, now 19, and Willem, now 18, join me in sending our condolences and love to all of her family and friends. Betty will be in our hearts forever. May God Bless you all at this time. I know that she is with John now, and last time we sat in her living room in New Castle talking, she said she couldn't wait to be with him again.

With all our love,

Catherine Meyjes, Peter and Willem

I worked with Betty Gailey quite a few years teaching school. I really admired her she was a very compassionate person and a wonderful teacher. Any child that ever had her was very very lucky. She and and John were close to Bob and I and we were all members of the Portsmouth Yacht club. It was always nice to be part of her and Johns company. She certainly will be missed by all.

Gaily Family

Betty will be missed by many including myself and my wife, Suzi. She was a great encouragement to us and we will not forget her. Though she is gone in body, she will be remembered in our hearts. She now resides in her eternal home at peace with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In that we can rejoice

I have such wonderful memories of Betty. Ever the encourager and gentle adviser. She must have been a wonderful teacher. I rejoice with her now ... even as I share the feelings of loss that all her friends are feeling. What joy to see Jesus ... and be reunited with "the love of her life." My heartfelt sympathy to all her family.
