Bettie Russell Obituary

Bettie Boegem Russell

Feb. 23, 1924 ~ Jan. 8, 2019

Bettie was born and raised in Seattle. Her parents were Pete and Anna Boegem. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1942. She met the love of her life, Joe Russell on a blind date the summer after graduation. Joe was in the army and going overseas soon so after only four months of dating they were married November 30, 1942. They were happily married for 49 years until Joe died in 1991. When Joe retired they traveled full time in their RV. For 20 years they were members of Escapees Travel Club. Bettie continued to drive the motor home on her own into her 80s. Bettie was proud of her pioneer status in Washington as her grandfather, Hans Zachariesen settled in Washington before it became a state. Hansville was named for him. Bettie loved knitting, sewing, quilting, and crafting. She won many blue ribbons for her creations. She was a talented piano and organ player. Bettie also loved to dance, she was a ballerina in high school. Later, she and Joe enjoyed square dancing. Her vegetable garden was once featured in Sunset Magazine. In her later years, she taught and played Mah Jongg at Third Place Books and Marysville Senior Center with her daughter.

Bettie is survived by children, Bettie (BJ) Jo, (Don) Kays, Jim (Cyn) Russell, and Cindy Russell. She has three grandchildren Cindy (Matt) Gagner, Meredith Russell, and Jules Russell. Also two great grandsons Lucian and Griffin and a third on the way.

The family wishes to thank The Gardens Assisted Living in Marysville and Hospice for their kind and loving care.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held at The Gardens, (formerly Brookdale), 9802-48th Dr. NE Marysville, WA 98270

on Friday, Jan. 18th at 2:00pm.

To the Russell family, you have my sincere condolences. When someone falls asleep in death (Ecclesiastes 9: 5,10) the memories we have of them become our most precious treasure. May those memories comfort you as well as Gods promise at John 6:40.
