My name is Nancy Burke. Del was the brother of my stepfather, Frank Ulrich. He and Swanie were so kind to me when I was a child. They treated me as if I were one of the family. They were also kind to me when I was a student nurse at Providence Hospital in Seattle.

To Bev, Jim and Dean. I was so sorry to read about Dr. Ulrich's passing. I had just seen him the week before at University House and informed him that my oldest daughter has decided to pursue a medical degree like her Grandfather. Your father was truely a Doctor's Doctor. My father had unfailing trust in Del's judgements and diagnosis. He cared for myself, my siblings, my parents, my Grandparents and my Aunt. We all received outstanding care. While our fathers kind of shared a practice, I can still recite by heart your home phone number to let patients know that while my father was out of town, Dr. Ulrich would provide them with the care both men felt was first and foremost. I was amazed on how those two men could hear or see a patient and make the correct diagnosis without the hundreds of tests and consults only to arrive at the same conclusion. They took pride in thier profession. On the personal note: After my Father died and my mom moved into University house your parents greeted her and help her to feel at home and part of the neighborhood. I know Mom always mentioned to us when she would see Del and Swannie and your father always seemed to take time out to chat and visit. I learned to water ski at one of the many parties your parents hosted in the summer, We also were always excited to watch the Christmas boats from your dock in the Winter and I remember going swimming at the outdoor pool surrounded by mountains of snow at your condo at crystal. I also remember my father asking Del what I might need to start to learn snow skiing, but I gave up after one outing.
Your mom and dad will finally be together again and they will be with old friends and I can just imagine the great health care all of them are providing. Because of his strong faith I know he will find eternal life. All of you and your family are in my thoughts and my mom's Dan Layman and Mrs James D. Layman
