Frederick Ewing Obituary

Frederick Eugene EWING Frederick Eugene Ewing passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2011 in Chelan at the age of 98. He was born in Seattle on February 1, 1912 to Albert and Anna Ewing as the fourth of five children. He is survived by his only child, Frederick Richard Ewing (Lorraine) and their seven children, Moira Ann and Thea of Snohomish, Karl(Alaska), Cully (Seattle), Toby (Bothell), Tim (Japan), and Todd (California) and seven great grandchildren. After graduating from Lincoln High, Fred worked for Seattle Ice Delivery Company with his father who was also a poet. A collection of his poems was compiled by his nephew Peter Cameron and recently published as "Musings of an Ice Man". Fred first delivered ice to homes, and prior to and during World War II, moved on to icing refrigerator cars for the railroads. Shortly after the War, when refrigeration came into being, he then began working for the Seattle Diesel Oil Sales delivering furnace oil to homes and churches all over Seattle and its environs. His last endeavor was as a founding partner in the Carnation Golf Course and residing on the course with his wife Dorothy. She was the main food provisioner for the pro shop and lent her artistic talents to the course in general. Dorothy predeceased him in 1982. Fred later married Margaret Woods of Manson and resided happily there for many years. Memorial services will be held at Northshore Bible Church, 123 Wapato Pkwy, Manson, WA at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 29th, 2011.

Mr. Ewing was not only the father of a classmate and friend, Fred, Jr., but was also my assistant scout master in Edmonds. I truly enjoyed Mr. Ewing because he was so helpful, ablbeit in a quiet manner, and was extremely good-natured.

It wasn't until one day I golfed at the Carnation course did I realize that Mr. Ewing was a pretty good golfer, too.

This friendly giant of a man was most certainly a guiding influence for me as a young man.
