Herbert Johnson Obituary

Herbert E. JOHNSON Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother passed away July 4, 2003 in Bellevue, Washington. Herb was born of Swedish immigrants, Edward and Hilda Johnson, in Portland, Oregon on April 5, 1920. He grew up in Portland, OR. attended Whitaker Grade School, graduated Benson Poly in 1939, and was a city of Portland 4-H member, and Most Outstanding Boy in 1938. He attended Oregon State College until drafted into the service in 1942. Herb proudly served his county in World War II as a First Lieutenant and Liaison Pilot 775 FA BN, serving nine months in combat XII Corp, 3rd Army in France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany and Czechoslovakia. He returned home to a long career with American Can Co. transferring to Seattle in 1954. After retiring from American Can he worked in sales for Industrial Caster. He will be remembered by all, for his loyalty to family and friends, his sense of humor, and always being willing to help anyone at anytime. He was affiliated with numerous organizations including 4-H, Masonic Lodge, VFW, F.O.E., Linnea Hall in Portland. He is survived by his wife Ragna; son Douglas Johnson; daughters Joanne (Tom) Stoves, Janet (Brian) Sandelius; brothers Vern (Nancy) Johnson, Frank (Bonnie) Johnson; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Burial will be Friday, July 11th, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Green Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel in Bellevue, WA. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Ruth Love's School Out Reach Program 1521 SW Marlow, Suite C Portland, OR 97225-5101. Arrangements by Butterworth-Arthur A.
